Guastavino Alliance
Carnegie Library in Washington, D.C.: Then & Now
Guastavino Alliance board members often visit member sites around the country. On a recent tour of Guastavino sites in Washington, D. C., David Madden visited the Carnegie Public Library, one of Guastavino senior’s finest “Palaces for the People,” dedicated in 1906.

Above is a 1950’s exterior view of the library where 18-year-old Madden wrote two of his short
stories in the summer of 1951. Below is an interior view in an exhibition space under the first floor as it may be seen today.
